Welcome, nice to meet you!

I'm Sára (Shara) Ritter, licensed psychologist*, couple therapist, mediator, systemic coach, and political consultant.

With my warm and positive attitude, a multinational background and a profound training record I help couples, conflict parties and individuals to overcome their crises with an integrated approach.

Having lived in five different European countries, a passion for foreign languages and cultures is ever-present in my life.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Born into an intercultural marriage and growing up in a humanist, politically engaged surrounding in two countries, my upbringing heavily influenced both my professional path and my work environment. With teachers, doctors and pastors as my parents and grandparents, this keen interest in and love for humankind constantly surrounded me and is a large part of who I've become today. Guiding others to find their peace - within and around themselves - has become the core symbol and essence of my work.

About me

Following some years as youth counselor for adolescent refugee minors who had arrived to Germany by themselves, I took a detour to the political world as a consultant in the private and non-profit sector before falling in love again with the beautiful discipline of psychology and discovering my passion and calling: to help couples restore their relationship in order to feel at peace again.

It is my deep conviction that mental health professionals hold the capacity and knowledge to make meaningful contributions to societal change. I remain active in the political world as an external consultant and Climate Coordinator of the Global Psychology Alliance, a dedicated and passionate group of organizational leaders from more than 70 national, regional, and international psychological associations whose objective is to apply psychological science to global challenges.

With my basis being in Germany, I live a digital nomad life across Europe, often accompanied by my dog Polly. In my freetime I love to travel, visit friends and relatives, do aerial acrobatics and yoga, play the piano or dance in the sunshine :)

My Approach

Through my advanced training, I had the chance to familiarize myself with different therapeutic approaches. Today, I integrate several methods in my work, all of which are based on my philosophy and views.

I believe we as humans are social creatures and long for secure relations. At the center of my working is a systemic, attachment-based approach, specifically emotionally focused therapy (EFT) by Dr. Sue Johnson.

To this I add interventions of:

  • the developmental model (Bader & Pearson)
  • the Gottman-method (John & Julie Gottman)
  • the psychobiological model (PACT by Stan Tatkin)
  • solution-focused tools (Berg & de Shazer)
  • body work and breathing exercises
  • cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)
  • Esther Perel's and Emily Nagoski's work

whenever I see fit.

My identities and values

I identify as bi-national and as member of the LGBTQIA+ community and can help you with related issues.

I am passionate about mental health (individual peace) as well as politics (societal peace) and have professionalized in both of them over the years. I take into account your sociopolitical and human rights context as this can have a large impact on your individual mental well-being as well as the interpersonal conflict that brought you here.

I would describe my personal and professional self as sex-positive. To me this means I see sexuality as something highly individual, and that everyone needs to figure out their own sexual identity and preferences for themselves. To me, everything that is consensual and enjoyed is good, regardless of what societal norms tell us.

As someone who believes in life-long learning, I regularly invest into my personal and professional growth in form of continuing education and personal psychotherapy (self-experience). I am connected with other relationship experts to seek professional guidance in form of supervision and intervision to ensure that I provide the highest quality of assistance to you in your process.
